Lathis actually come in all shapes and sizes, from four feet to six feet in length and from 1" to over 2" in diameter. However we have found that a diameter of about 11/8 to 11/4 inches to be ideal.

At six feet,  the Lathi becomes an excellent hiking or camping staff. In fact it has sufficient length so that it can be cut to exactly fit the user. With the bark left on these sticks they are virtually impervious to the elements. Additionally, there is a significant weight and cost savings between rattan Lathis and traditional hardwood staffs. They even fit well into martial arts applications where they can stand in for expensive Oak Bo's from Japan or other impact weapons.
